Hello, I’m Halil Ibrahim Dursunoglu, a Faculty Specialist in Computer Science and Cybersecurity at Western Michigan University. My work focuses on applied cybersecurity, artificial intelligence security, secure software development, and secure systems design. I am particularly interested in deepfake detection, AI-driven security challenges, and building resilient digital systems.
Through teaching, research, and industry collaboration, I strive to bridge academic knowledge with real-world cybersecurity practice. My work includes cybersecurity workforce development, secure-by-design education, and mentoring students in innovative software and security projects. I am also a reviewer for the Journal of Open Source Software (JOSS) and the Journal of Open Research Software (JORS), and have contributed as a subject matter expert to RSA Conference on AI security and deepfake detection.
Research Interests
My research focuses on applied cybersecurity, artificial intelligence security, secure software engineering, and secure systems design. I am particularly interested in deepfake detection, AI-driven security challenges, software vulnerability analysis, and the protection of digital trust in modern computing environments. My work aims to bridge academic research with practical cybersecurity solutions that improve the security, resilience, and trustworthiness of digital systems.
RSAC Recognition
Recognized by RSA Conference (RSAC) as a Subject Matter Expert in Artificial Intelligence Security and Deepfake Detection. Contributed to the RSAC article “Closing the Door on AI Impersonation with Synchronization Scoring,” discussing emerging threats related to AI-generated impersonation and approaches for strengthening digital trust and media authenticity.

I serve as a reviewer for the Journal of Open Source Software (JOSS) and the Journal of Open Research Software (JORS), evaluating research software, open-source projects, reproducibility, software engineering practices, and technical implementations.
